Today, something so special and close to my heart is happening. And I am SO excited to share it with you, because I know the difference this is going to make in your life.
First, for background, let me offer a peak into the history of my marriage.
In case you don’t know our story, since our marriage in 2011 and the birth of our son in 2013, my husband Tony and I have been on some wild rides together around fitness.
We’ve grown, together, from two obsessed fitness professionals with MAJOR food and exercise issues, to two intuitive eaters and exercisers who learned big life lessons from their mistakes and now are passionate to share that freedom with our readers and clients.
When I met Tony, I was a single mom of three little kids who was coming out of years of yo-yo dieting the 30-40 lbs of each pregnancy off and then on again. Tony, I didn’t know until later in our dating, was struggling with an intense binge eating disorder he had developed from bodybuilding (which I now know to be super common in that industry).
At first, the two of us together proved to be quite destructive together. We pushed each other to be more and more extreme until we both finally broke. Tony was first to say “Enough.” After years of restricting himself for months then giving up and binge-eating nightly for a month straight, putting on as many as 30 pounds in that short time, he sought help and was able to stabilize his eating disorder with some patience, guidance, and introspection.
As I supported him in this journey, I began to realize how unhealthy my own eating and exercise habits had always been. And so we began to heal…together.
This created a passion and fire in both of us to help others stay out of these destructive patterns. After reaching the other side and developing healthy patterns for the first time in our adult lives, we began to realize just how pervasive these destructive messages are in the fitness, diet, and health industry. (“No excuses! Carbs are bad! No pain no gain!”)
We’d talk about this on our weekly date nights, which for a good while was at our favorite sushi place. It felt fitting that our best conversations around our evolving understanding of the mindset and psychology of fitness happened while we ate something we both LOVED but had previously deemed as “off-limits”.
One night, Tony joked “We should have a microphone here so others could benefit from this. A podcast – and call it Fitness & Sushi.”
And after many starts and stops (4 kids and two insanely busy careers), technical mishaps and other obstacles, we are so proud to be launching that very podcast TODAY.
And while this is really exciting for us, you are the one who really is going to benefit. Come sit down in our media room with us, and soak up the knowledge and insights we’ve acquired from our own journeys, and from the hundreds of clients we’ve helped through these same situations.
